Every year we choose a charity of the year to support through our fundraising efforts. For 2017, Small Strides CIC is our choice as it’s one that’s close to our hearts.
We were inspired by the unique nature of the business as it is the only organisation in the Bristol area that uses horses to help children and adults on the Autism Spectrum and with special educational needs or disabilities.
We want to help Small Strides reach their target of raising £5000 to help fund an outdoor arena so we have an all year round space to use for sessions.
As such an important service for so many, we have committed to help Jenny MacSharry to develop her business and gain the funding she needs to expand and help more clients.

Small Strides is a not-for-profit, community interest company that specialises in Equine Assisted Learning & Activities, also known as Equine Assisted Learning or Therapeutic Horsemanship.
They specialize in working with children on the autistic spectrum and with special educational needs or disabilities. Clients include people with mental health problems, learning difficulties, on the autistic spectrum people in recovery, children with development issues, challenging behaviour, ADHD and generally anyone who feel they can benefit from being around the horses.
The sessions are designed to give clients the chance to progress without pressure, learning a new set of skills and gaining confidence which leads to increased self-esteem and improved communication skills.
Therapeutic horsemanship promotes relaxation techniques that are known to help with anxiety problems, increase concentration levels and reduce stress. Not only that, it also gives the clients a sense of achievement through a new hobby.
So far, it’s proven to be very effective for people using the service. They currently help a number of people from disadvantaged backgrounds and all levels of ability.
